Community Engagement: SSTAR will work towards helping to develop projects that help fortify the larger community. The organization will partner with neighborhood associations, social groups and other natural supports within the community to promote the healthy initiatives of the project. Areas they may focus on include the development of new community gardening projects, drama and discussion, meditation or fitness classes, community art/therapy projects, and healthy living groups.
Neighborhood Fun Days: Project ASSIST, the Office of Mayor William A. Flanagan and Community Development Re-Creation organized three Neighborhood Fun Days in city parks throughout the summer. The events allow adults and children to celebrate with their neighbors. Activities include a rock wall, fun playground equipment, a live DJ, refreshments, games and prizes. Representatives of local social service and city organizations will also man booths and will provide information to interested residents about resources available in the community. Family Fun Days were held on June, 28 at Lafayette Park, July 12 at Kennedy Park and August 16 at Maplewood Park from 4 p.m.-7p.m.
