And was well attended by over 100 people.

David Mee-Lee, M.D. is a physician and a board-certified psychiatrist.
For over 25 years he has developed and promoted innovative behavioral health treatment which emphasizes these values important to him:

  • clinical integrity
  • high quality
  • cost-consciousness

He is both a workshop trainer-teacher and a consultant. In addition, he is a researcher and author in the field of addictions and mental health. He has worked with hundreds of organizations, ranging from small mental health centers to private companies, from government departments to large, national, million-dollar behavioral healthcare companies. All organizations are involved in the care and treatment of people with substance abuse disorders. He has been a prominent member of the field's professional organization, The American Society of Addiction Medicine, known as ASAM.

During this same twenty-five years, he has acquired expertise in the field of dual diagnosis (co-occurring substance use and mental disorders). His medical, psychiatric and addictions training began in his home country of Australia. From there it took him to Ohio, Massachusetts, Hawaii and eventually to California. He has traveled to, and trained in almost every US state. His international work has taken him to Australia, Japan, Singapore, Germany, Guam, Puerto Rico and England.

Attended by over 100 people, the “Co-Occurring Disorders: Clinical Dilemmas in Assessment and Treatment” workshop spoke to the addiction and mental health treatment fields knowing both have arisen from very different roots. This has accounted for the ongoing fragmentation that has been aggravated by different training, systems and funding. Clients and clinicians are separated by ideology and treatment orientations that do not serve well the co-occurring disorders client. The workshop focused on how to integrate services for people suffering from mental health and substance use problems, especially those in residential treatment settings.
